Please take a moment to think about the fact that our species has become insane enough to treat others differently based on appearance.
I reblogged something from Laurence Philomene once and this is what she wrote:
uugh so angry at women’s magazines right now
”the perfect tan”
shut the fuck up are you insinuating that any kind of tan that doesn’t look like that isn’t acceptable/perfect?
noAnother thought I had today, in relation more towards the world as a whole (and I will relate this back in a moment), that part of the reason racial discrimination EXISTS is because of the borders between two locations - whether that be a city or a country. I understand that there would not be much organization in a world without the names of places, and, knowing how people are, they would come up with new names and continue to label those who reside in certain areas.
How this division of areas relates to women (and MANY other issues, for that matter) is the fact that magazines and clothing stores divide up women who are “different”. When magazine uses a “plus size” model for an editorial, the title is commonly similar to “fierce at any size” - the SIZE is ALWAYS pointed out. Why does it need to be pointed out? The fact that the magazine is trying to promote equality by saying, ‘look, we are using a “REAL” woman and she is just as fierce as any other model mk’ does nothing to promote equality among women - it builds borders. If the magazine editorial had the title of, “cheap looks for less” where it simply discussed cheaper tips for shoppers, the outcome would be drastically different; the act of a magazine using models of all sizes would become known as the norm. All models are REAL models they are LIVING people and that is the way they look OKAY (except for H&M’s, but you get the point).
This has always been something I believe strongly in. It makes me very upset when people are so close-minded to the that’s-just-the-way-things-are belief. It’s also very belittling when I think about how much I love the fashion industry and how much I wish to be respected someday when I live in such a small town in the northwest, and deep down I also wonder if I can achieve strives towards some sort equality as well as creating art that I love.
